In the wake of the travel group Thomas Cook's bankruptcy, Ving, which was part of the group, has now started a new company with the aim of being able to pay salaries to 75 employees in Spain who are currently not receiving their wages as a result of the bankruptcy.

– There are, among others, 75 tour guides and guides employed by a Spanish company that has also gone bankrupt. And that unfortunately means a delay in salary payments, says Ving's Head of Communications, Fredrik Henriksson.

It has been two weeks since the travel giant Thomas Cook went bankrupt and had bank debts equivalent to around SEK 23 billion at the time. In the wake of this, the Spanish company also collapsed, where among the employees there was also Swedish staff working in the Canary Islands for Ving's travellers. That staff have not received any wages since then, and in order to be able to pay them, the Ving Group Nordic has now started a new company with the ambition that they will be employed there instead, says Fredrik Henriksson.

– In collaboration with the administrator, we are working to take them over as soon as possible by this company which has been established by the Ving Group.

A bankruptcy administrator will also be working to try and get staff wages paid. However, Fredrik Henriksson does not want to speculate on how long this might take, be it days or months.

 – We will, of course, work hard to ensure the administrator prioritises wages. However, the administrator won't be starting work until the beginning of the week, so I can't say yet when that will be.

What also remains now is the answer to who can become the new owner of Ving. There are a number of possible future scenarios.

 – What we've seen is that several parties are showing great interest in the Ving Group Nordics and the profitable business we've been operating here for decades. However, it’s still too early to say who will ultimately own us, says Fredrik Henriksson.
