Next year, it will be possible to fly directly between Stockholm and Tokyo. Japan's largest airline, ANA, is launching a direct route in the summer.

”The new direct route has been long-awaited by Swedish export companies and will strengthen Sweden's tourism industry,” says Jonas Abrahamsson, President and CEO of Swedavia, in a press release.

The number of air passengers between the cities increased by 50 percent over the last year. However, those who wanted to fly direct have been reliant on, for example, Copenhagen Airport in Denmark.’

After China, Japan is Sweden's largest export market in Asia.

”Many of us have long worked for more direct routes from Arlanda and Stockholm, so this is a very welcome announcement,” says Anna König Jerlmyr (M), Finance Councillor for the City of Stockholm, in the press release.

It has been several decades since there was a direct connection from Arlanda to Tokyo.
