The warm winter weather is affecting ski resorts in southern Sweden economically and some have been forced to close and call staff home, writes Dagens Industri.

One facility is Ski Sunne in Värmland, which has invested a couple of million in new water pipes and snow cannons to ensure snow supply. But they have barely been used and a week into the new year, the facility decided to temporarily close.

– It is a disaster that we cannot keep the ski slopes open, but we are not going to perish because of this, CEO Curt Rudin tells Di.

Another facility is Isaberg Mountain Resort in Hestra, Småland, which has had no skiing at all this winter. They have spent five days producing snow, but in vain.

January has so far been unusually warm in large parts of the country, according to SMHI, with temperatures above ten degrees in several locations.
