It was just after nine o'clock on Monday morning that a passenger plane suddenly stopped in the middle of a highway in the port city of Mahshahr.
"Fortunately, all passengers on the Tehran-Mahshahr flight are safe," said Reza Jafarzadeh, spokesman for Iran's Civil Aviation Authority.
The plane was en route from the Iranian capital Tehran to Mahshahr in southwestern Iran on Monday morning, reports the English-language Tehran Times.
Upon landing, the plane skidded off the runway and onto a road, writes AP, citing state media.
The pilot began the landing too late and therefore missed the runway, the head of the regional aviation authority said, according to state television.
All unharmed
One of the passengers testifies that the aircraft's rear wheel appears to have been torn off and that the plane dragged towards the ground before coming to a stop on the highway.
None of the 135 passengers on board were injured, and an investigation has been launched.
The plane, which belongs to the Iranian airline Caspian and was manufactured by the American McDonnell Douglas, arrived from the capital Tehran.
