A train from Oslo to Bergen ran into a snowslide near the Gravhal tunnel on the Bergen railway last night, reports Daily Paper. On board there are 115 people, including staff. Neither passengers nor the train are to be injured.
Work is currently underway to get the people off the train. Nina Schage, Communications Director at the train company VY, says that the people on board cannot leave until the railway line has been cleared so that the train can continue westwards.
– The safest thing is for passengers to remain on the train, where there is electricity, light and heating. There is too much snow for us to move them to a hotel, Schage tells Dagbladet.
Police arrived at the scene shortly before 3 AM tonight, where they confirmed that two cabins and a shed had been destroyed by the avalanche. So far, there is nothing to suggest that anyone was present in any of the buildings.
Rescue operations have been carried out from both the west and east sides of the slide. The Bergen Line is closed due to the avalanche.
