During April, 63,000 passengers traveled via Swedavia's ten airports in Sweden. This is a decrease of a full 98 percent compared to April last year.

– The decrease is dramatic for the month of April. We had just over 60,000 travelers, compared to 3.2 million travelers last year, says Charlotte Ljunggren, Director of Market and Commercial Development, to Ekot.

Air travel is plummeting and the corona pandemic is affecting Swedavia's airports a lot, for example Arlanda and Landvetter.

Several of the airports also lacked regular air traffic altogether.

The company believes that air traffic will continue to remain at very low levels in the near future and does not expect air traffic to recover to any great extent in the coming months.

– Only after the summer will we see a stabilization of air travel. Then we will see an extremely slow recovery, which depends on how other countries act. Because first and foremost, it is the spread of infection that we should focus on. We also see that 2021 will be heavily affected by low volumes, Ljunggren tells Ekot.

The situation for Swedavia therefore remains extremely challenging and the company is losing approximately SEK 500 million in revenue each month.

– We laid off up to 2,100 people and we have given notice of termination to 800 employees, she says.

In addition, several projects at Arlanda have now been stopped.

– Yes, we have paused two important development projects at Arlanda. One is called the pier and the other is the baggage system. We are doing this because of the current situation. We need to ensure that we lower our costs as much as possible, says Charlotte Ljunggren, Director of Market and Commercial Development, to Ekot.
