The German airline giant expects to have to park hundreds of planes on the ground in the coming years due to the corona pandemic. In addition, new layoffs in maintenance and catering operations are inevitable, the board writes in a letter that Reuters have taken part in.

In a letter that the company's board has sent out to its employees, Lufthansa writes that 300 aircraft will be parked in 2021 and that 200 planes will continue to be parked in 2022.

”"In the summer of 2023, when we can hopefully put this crisis behind us, we will still have a fleet that is 100 aircraft smaller," the board writes in the letter, which Reuters has seen.

At the turn of the year, Lufthansa had a total of 763 aircraft in operation, according to the annual report.

The Lufthansa board also expects further job losses from the company. The letter states that this concerns a significant number of jobs in the maintenance business Lufthansa Technik and the catering company LSG.
