Travel companies scrutinized for late refunds

The Swedish Consumer Agency has initiated supervision of the travel companies Sas, Tui, Norwegian and Ving because they do not refund money for canceled trips quickly enough, reported SVT News.

Anyone whose booked trip is cancelled has the right to a full refund by law. For flights, this must be done within seven days, and for package holidays within two weeks. However, with the avalanche of cancellations that have occurred, the companies have not been able to maintain the time requirements – which has been noticed by the Swedish Consumer Agency.

The authority has received ten times more reports about package tours in April and May than last year, almost all of which concern refunds, according to SVT.

Sas, Tui, Norwegian and Ving stand out in the reporting statistics, which is why targeted supervision has been initiated against them.

”"We have had some understanding so far, but it is still the case that the money should not come from the consumers here. There are consumer protection rules and they are very clear," says Maja Lindstrand, a lawyer at the Swedish Consumer Agency, to SVT.
