When Croatia opens its borders, tourists from all EU countries are welcome, including Sweden. All tourists will be required to show booking confirmations before departure.
This summer, EU/EEA citizens can visit Croatia as tourists without any special agreements between the countries. All that is required to enter the country is to show a confirmation of a holiday booking, proof of ownership or rental contract for a property or something similar.
An app and website will soon be ready, where tourists will be able to upload their documents in advance.
”The aim is to confirm that only tourists are coming, and that we know who is in the country and where they are,” says Vedran Susic, director of the Croatian Tourist Board in Stockholm.
Croatia is one of the countries in Europe least affected by the coronavirus, with 100 deaths out of a population of just over four million. The calm situation in the country has allayed concerns about allowing foreign tourists in, according to Vedran Susic.
”"Because things have gone well for us, people trust that our healthcare system will fix it, even if someone infected were to come here," says Vedran Susic.
There remains a risk that the concerns among airlines will hinder tourism in Europe, a situation that is expected to persist at least as long as European countries advise against travel. The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised against all non-essential travel until July 15.
