Emirates, one of the world's largest long-haul airlines, is laying off hundreds of pilots and thousands of cabin crew. More layoffs are expected due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, several sources told Reuters.

The airline industry is one of the industries hardest hit by the coronavirus crisis. Emirates, based in Dubai, employs around 4,300 pilots and around 22,000 flight attendants and hostesses.

The Dubai government said on May 10 that it would support the airline financially so that Emirates could ”retain its valuable staff.”.
