Increased pressure on train tickets to the mountains

Remove

SJ is noticing increased pressure on train travel since travel restrictions were changed on June 13, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot. This applies primarily to trips to the mountains.

”"We are seeing increasing travel now, not least with the night trains to Jämtland and Norrland," says SJ's business manager Jan Kyrk to Ekot.

When the Public Health Agency advised against domestic travel in March, SJ's ticket sales dropped by 80 percent.

But as soon as the restrictions were changed, it picked up again. Last week, bookings on night trains between Stockholm and Östersund increased by 25 percent compared to the same time last year.

Tickets for day trains have not increased as much and bookings are 35 percent lower than last year.

But total travel will still be lower than last year, partly because the trains are running with fewer seats to create distance between passengers.
