During the month of June, 179,000 passengers travelled via Swedavia's ten airports, a decrease of 95 percent compared to the same month last year when travel amounted to 3,845,000 passengers. The effects of the corona pandemic had a very strong impact on air travel for the third month in a row. During the end of the month in particular, some traffic at the airports restarted and this development is expected to continue in July.
During June, a total of 108,000 international travelers and 71,000 domestic travelers traveled via Swedavia's airports, which is a decrease of 96 percent for international traffic and 93 percent for domestic traffic compared to June last year. At that time, Swedavia had 2,809,000 international travelers and 1,036,000 domestic travelers.
– The impact of the corona pandemic on air travel remains dramatic and means a loss of 95 percent of traffic in June compared to last year. At the same time, we are seeing some lightening with a slightly improved traffic situation during the latter part of the month. We are seeing signs of a gradual restart of traffic as travel restrictions are eased, which is positive for accessibility. However, these are still modest levels in terms of the number of passengers and we expect a slow recovery in air travel, says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO.
