Ryanair is reducing its capacity by 20 percent during September and October. One of the countries hardest hit will be Sweden, where cases of COVID-19 have ”increased recently” which ”has led to increased travel restrictions,” Ryanair writes in a statement. press release.

In addition to Sweden, capacity to France and Spain will also be cut, the company writes, pointing out that it is mainly about reducing the number of departures rather than closing routes.

Ryanair also points to Ireland as one of the countries that has introduced uniquely tough restrictions, requiring 14-day quarantine for visitors from most EU countries, and which will be hit hard by the cuts.

The necessary measures come after bookings have weakened over the last ten days, it said.

”Thorough testing at airports (as carried out in Germany and Italy) is the only realistic and proportionate method to monitor safe air travel within the EU while effectively limiting the spread of COVID-19,” the press release states.
