The heat has caused public transport chaos in Gothenburg – after a large number of trams were placed on a safety stop by the union. The reason is that in the late summer heat it becomes too hot in the driver's cabs.
Because the older tram models lack air conditioning, they have been driven into the depot, local media reports.
”"They lack air conditioning. The company has called me and tried to get me to remove the stop. But we are not removing it," says Johan Kanmert, Municipal Safety Representative on Gothenburg's trams, to GT.
According to Västtrafik, the safety shutdown will affect about a quarter of Tuesday's scheduled traffic. The company has deployed buses to replace the trams.
