The airline Finnair is raising its savings target by an additional 20 million euros, equivalent to 207 million kronor, to 100 million euros, according to a press release.
It was at the end of May that Finnair announced that the company planned to reduce its cost base by 80 million euros by 2022. After reviewing possible cost-saving measures as well as the long-term consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, the company has decided to expand the cost-saving measures by an additional 20 million euros.
”"Our revenues have decreased significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and some of the main factors driving the decline appear to be more persistent than we initially expected. Therefore, we are adjusting our savings target to better address the situation as there is no rapid improvement in sight," says Topi Manner, CEO of Finnair, in a press release.
In total, Finnair estimates that around 1,000 jobs will disappear due to the situation prevailing in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
