This summer's traffic recovery from the corona pandemic's acute shutdown of the tourism and travel industry has been disappointing for Airbus and the layoffs and voluntary departures that have been made will not be enough, according to CEO Guillaume Faury.
In an internal message addressed to the entire workforce, published in full by the Toulouse newspaper La Tribune, the CEO writes that the crisis is deeper and longer than the company had previously anticipated.
”"The resumption of aviation during the summer has not lived up to the expectations of the aviation sector. Therefore, we must prepare for a crisis that will probably be deeper and longer than we thought in our previous forecasts," writes Guillaume Faury.
In June, the CEO issued a similar letter stating that management wanted to reduce the workforce by 15,000. Airbus has a total of 90,000 employees, of which 5,000 are in France, where the company's headquarters and final assembly are located in Toulouse.
