Late Tuesday local time, Donald Trump urged Congress to quickly approve $25 billion in new aid money for US airlines. 

The president wrote that on Twitter. 

The call came a few hours after he announced that the administration would abandon talks on a new stimulus package.

Major airlines such as American Airlines and United Airlines began laying off 32,000 employees last week, but have said they would reverse course if politicians agreed on a new program to finance payroll costs, Reuters writes.

In the same tweet, the president called for approving $135 billion for small businesses and $1,200 in stimulus payments to individuals.

”I am ready to sign immediately,” he wrote.
