On Sunday, 984,234 people passed through US airport security, the highest number in seven months, CNBC reports. Meanwhile, the number of new coronavirus infections continues to rise in the country.

Newly reported cases have averaged 49,243 per day over the past seven days, up 14 percent from a week earlier, according to an analysis of data from Johns Hopkins. Globally, more than 37.61 million people have been infected with the virus and at least 1.07 million have died. The death toll in the United States has reached 214,882, with 7.77 million infected.

Airport data also shows that domestic travel is on the rise despite the increase in the number of infected people. On Sunday, the highest number of checked-in passengers was reached in seven months, according to data from the Transportation Security Administration, TSA.

At the same time, it is more than 60 percent lower than the same level last year.

Ticket sales during week 40 were nearly 83 percent lower than the same week last year, but higher than the 85 percent down during week 39.
