Italy reports a record number of new coronavirus cases – 7,332 on Tuesday, compared to 5,901 new cases on Monday, Bloomberg News reports.
This is higher than the peak of 6,557 new corona cases in March when the pandemic broke out. At the same time, the number of tests today is significantly higher than it was then.
Italy has fared better than France and Spain recently, but the spread of the infection is now increasing.
The Italian government last week reintroduced restrictions such as mandatory use of face masks outdoors and has introduced new ones this week to limit social gatherings.
