Hundreds of protesters have taken to Lagos International Airport in Nigeria and blocked the main road to the airport.

The demonstration is part of protests against police violence in the country, many of the young demonstrators are carrying flags and placards condemning police violence. There are also demands for widespread social and economic changes.

The latest demonstration in Nigeria's most economically important city follows days of widespread protests.

Young protesters also gathered on Monday in several other cities in Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari's government has disbanded the Special Police Command, abbreviated as Sars, after reports of brutal methods triggered the widespread protests.

The protests have been largely peaceful, but tensions and unrest have increased recently. In total, at least 15 people have been killed, including two police officers, since October 8, according to human rights organization Amnesty International.
