Denmark will partially close Copenhagen, Odense and Aarhus, as well as a number of municipalities in the capital area and on Zealand, ahead of Christmas, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) announced via a video on Facebook.

The decision on the new restrictions will take effect from Monday. The selected locations currently have the highest spread of infection.

”"Based on the information we receive from the authorities, we have prepared a geographical, targeted and partial lockdown over the weekend. Unfortunately."”

”"This applies in the parts of the country where the infection is most widespread."”

Mette Frederiksen does not go into detail about exactly what measures the decision refers to. But she advises citizens to get used to meeting fewer people in the future.

”"We will have better control of the infection before Christmas Eve. It will require a lot from all of us again."”

She talks about "close family" in connection with Christmas celebrations.

”We have to ask ourselves: Should we meet? And not — how can we meet?”

How the restrictions will look throughout the country over Christmas and New Year will also be presented at a press conference on Monday.
