Destination Gotland will begin operating the route between Dunkirk, France, and Rosslare, Ireland, on behalf of the Danish shipping company DFDS, according to a press release.
The new route will focus on transporting trucks and their drivers between the two EU countries when the UK's transition period for EU exit expires in the New Year.
Destination Gotland personnel will man the deck and machinery of M/S Visby, which is chartered to DFDS. In the meantime, the ferry's regular traffic on the Baltic Sea will be carried out by M/S Drotten.
Destination Gotland writes that the new freight route will reduce dependence on the UK's road network for the internal market.
“We are very pleased to be able to assist in ensuring a functioning internal market within the EU and to secure transport between Ireland and France,” says Håkan Johansson, CEO of Rederi AB Gotland, which owns the vessel.
