The number of passengers at major Swedish airports fell by three-quarters last year. According to the state-owned airport company Swedavia, there have not been so few passengers at Swedish airports since the early 1980s.

Just over ten million passengers travelled to or from the airports during the year. This represents a decrease of just over 30 million from 2019.

According to Swedavia CEO Jonas Abrahamsson, the situation is still uncertain. Low figures are expected even in early 2021, in addition to the pandemic effect, as the winter months usually have fewer air travelers.

Abrahamsson also says that there are conditions for a recovery in air travel before the summer.
