Hotel quarantine for entry into the UK

Today, England begins hotel quarantine for all British citizens traveling into the country from any of the currently 33 red-listed countries, writes The Guardian.

For ten days, incoming citizens must stay in a hotel, and this is a cost that the traveler must also pay out of their own pocket.

The authorities have agreements with 16 hotels and access to 4,963 rooms at the moment. But they have an additional 58,000 hotel rooms that can be used for quarantine if necessary.

– As this deadly virus evolves, so must our defences, says Health Minister Matt Hancock.

– As new variations emerge, we must go further. The rules that come into effect today will strengthen the quarantine system and give our border protection another layer.

Sweden is not one of the 33 red-listed countries. The full list is available here.
