A passenger plane from the local airline South Supreme crashed on Tuesday afternoon in the South Sudanese state of Jonglei, in the eastern part of the country.
“It was with great shock and dismay that I heard the news of the plane crash,” said Governor Denay Jock Chagor in a statement.
“Ten people, including the two pilots, have lost their lives.”
The state-run Turkish news agency Anatolia reports that the flight was to go from the town of Pieri in Jonglei to the capital Juba, but that the plane crashed just minutes after takeoff.
