GLOBAL TOURISM: With Sweden in first place, followed by Finland, Austria, Estonia and Norway, Scandinavia is at the top in a new, global survey of which countries in the world are the most sustainable tourist destinations.
The international research company Euromonitor International conducted the survey, which also shows that just over 66 percent of the world's consumers want to act more sustainably.
The results were published at the world's largest travel fair ITB in Berlin yesterday, March 12. The fair is completely digital this year.
Euromonitor International has compared 99 countries' sustainability in environmental, social and economic sustainability, transportation, housing, risks and demand for sustainable tourism.
”"The fact that Sweden tops global rankings on sustainability is very pleasing, especially when we know that more and more consumers and tourists in the world want to live, act and travel more sustainably," says Susanne Andersson, CEO of Sweden's marketing company Visit Sweden.
”"The well-known Swedish focus on sustainability is and will be a strong and solid competitive advantage when global travel picks up again."”
”"We see that more and more countries, destinations and actors have realized the potential that more sustainable tourism brings, and there are currently major investments and preparations underway around the world to be able to market more sustainable experiences, when the time is right for this," continues Susanne Andersson.
Visit Sweden, Sweden's marketing company, consistently works to highlight sustainable tourism in Sweden in its communication to attract more people to visit Sweden.
