Around 1.45 million jobs in the tourism sector have been lost in Thailand due to the corona pandemic, according to a private tourism organization.
Tourism accounts for 11–12 percent of the country's economic growth and, according to the organization, there were 4.5 million jobs in the sector before the pandemic.
Thailand is now gradually trying to reopen the country to tourism. From July, tourists will be allowed to visit Phuket without the mandatory two-week quarantine stay, and the same exemption will apply from October for Pattaya, Koh Samui and Krabi, among others.
