Finnair's traffic figures for March continued to be strongly affected by the pandemic, but freight performed relatively very strongly.

This is evident from Finnair's monthly traffic report.

During March this year, Finnair had 86,300 passengers, approximately 83 percent fewer than in March 2020 when the pandemic began to have an impact on air travel. The number of passengers in March 2021 was 1.1 percent fewer than in February 2021.

”"The Covid-19 effect, including the exceptionally tough travel restrictions imposed by several countries, continued to affect all passenger traffic," Finnair writes, pointing primarily to travel across the Atlantic and to Asia.

Capacity measured as ASK decreased by just over 81 percent and revenue per passenger kilometer flown, RPK, fell by 92 percent.

For cargo flights, Finnair also noted declines, but revenue per tonne per kilometer increased by almost 27 percent. Demand for cargo capacity was particularly strong on flights to and from Asia, writes Finnair.
