Colosseum to get a movable floor

Using advanced technology, Rome's Colosseum is set to regain some of its former glory, writes The Guardian. The floor where gladiators fought each other and wild animals will be reinstalled – now in a modernised and movable state.

Arkitekturfirman Milan Ingegniera, who won the bid for the construction with an offer equivalent to nearly 190 million Swedish kronor, aims to create an arena floor that will make visitors “see the majesty of the monument”. The project is estimated to take two years.

The Roman amphitheatre, completed during Emperor Titus's reign 80 years after Christ, had a wooden floor built over the tunnels and rooms where gladiators and animals stayed before being brought to the arena. The new floor shall be able to cover the labyrinth of rooms and be removed just as quickly if needed.
