Uncertain whether vaccine passports will be ready on time

It is far from certain that the digital vaccine passports will be ready by June 1, writes Swedish Daily Newspaper.

”"It is still not entirely clear what date it will be launched," says Mats Snäll, head of digital development at the Swedish Digital Development Agency, to the newspaper.

It was in February that the authority was tasked with developing the technical infrastructure for vaccination certificates by June 1. But new regulations regarding what the certificates should contain are making the work more difficult.

Above all, it is the ”other evidence” that causes this. That is, the government has decided that the ”passport” should not only indicate whether a person is vaccinated or not, but should also be able to show whether the person has received a negative test result or has already had Covid-19.

In Sweden, there is a national registry of which vaccinations people have received, from which the information can be easily retrieved. However, there is no similar registry of who has been tested for COVID-19 or who has had the disease, which poses a problem.
