From 1 July, a digital Covid-19 certificate, known as a vaccine passport, will be required for travellers within the EU. The certificate certifies that you have been vaccinated against Covid-19, tested negative or recovered.
HOW DO I GET IT?
By logging in with your e-ID at ehalsomyndigheten.se. The so-called Green Certificate is then automatically sent to your digital mailbox. If you do not have a digital mailbox, you can you get one here. The certificate can also be saved and printed.
The service is expected to open at the end of June. The authorities are currently working on how to obtain a vaccination certificate without requiring e-ID.
DOES IT COST?
No, the certificate itself is free. It is also free to get vaccinated, but it can cost to get tested. The EU has promised to subsidize the costs of PCR tests to make them affordable and easily accessible.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
It has a QR code that, when scanned, confirms your digital signature. The certificate with the QR code can be obtained digitally or on paper.
Each entity issuing the certificates has its own digital signature key, which is stored in a secure database in each country. To ensure that these can be verified across the EU, the European Commission will build a gateway and develop software that scans and verifies the QR codes on the certificates.
WHAT INFORMATION IS ON THE CERTIFICATE?
Name, date of birth, date of issue, which vaccine or test you have taken or whether you have recovered and have antibodies, and a unique identification number.
Only the validity and authenticity of the certificate is checked; other information may not be saved in the countries visited.
WILL THE SAME RESTRICTIONS APPLY IN ALL COUNTRIES?
As much as possible. According to the agreement, EU countries should preferably not introduce any restrictions of their own, there should be free movement from July 1st.
WILL I BE IN QUARANTINE?
It may happen that countries introduce their own rules about cranes, for example if there is a new spread of infection or mutation.
CAN I TRAVEL EVEN IF I DON'T GET VACCINATED?
Yes. The certificate will make it easier to travel within the EU, but will not be a requirement as free movement is a fundamental right in the EU. However, it is usually required that you take a test, and the certificate can then be used to record test results.
DOES IT APPLY TO ANY COUNTRY OUTSIDE THE EU?
The certificate will also be able to be used by Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, according to the European Commission.
DOES IT MATTER WHICH VACCINE I HAVE TAKEN?
No. The certificate applies to all COVID-19 vaccines that have been approved by the EU. Countries can also decide to accept other vaccines.
REMAINING QUESTION MARK
Many details are not yet clear. When the EU Parliament has decided on the new regulation (which is expected to happen on June 26), all question marks should be resolved.
