The airline SAS continues to be burdened by the ongoing pandemic and reported another billion-kronor loss in the second quarter of the company's broken fiscal year. However, the loss was around 1 billion lower than in the same quarter last year.
On Thursday, it was time for SAS to present its figures for the second quarter. Revenues totaled SEK 1,932 million, which was a decrease from SEK 5,264 million during the same quarter last year.
”"Although the number of vaccinated people is increasing worldwide, high infection rates and strict travel restrictions continue to affect societies and slow the recovery of the aviation industry. Demand was also low in the second quarter and the number of passengers decreased by 2.4 million compared to the same quarter last year and was also 140,000 fewer than the previous quarter," writes Karl Sandlund, acting CEO of SAS, in the report.
The net result was minus SEK 2,433 million, which was an improvement from minus SEK 3,470 million during the same period last year.
”"Although the quarter's loss amounts to SEK 2.4 billion, SAS is showing an improved operating profit for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, both compared to the previous year and the previous quarter," writes Karl Sandlund.
According to Karl Sandlund, many customers are now choosing to book their tickets with significantly less advance notice, which makes it difficult for SAS to predict demand during the summer.
