The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is easing its travel recommendations for 61 countries.
Olympic host Japan is among the countries that are no longer covered by the so-called level 4, which means that all travel is advised against. France, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Poland, South Africa, Canada and Mexico are also now all classified as level 3, while Sweden remains at level 4.
The new assessment is expected to be fully implemented on the US State Department's travel advisory website shortly.
