Within five years, it may be possible for private individuals to fly electric to and from Gotland. The region wants Gotland to become Sweden's first route for commercial electric flights and has concrete plans for how this will be implemented.
Electric flights developed for commercial traffic already exist. But before electric flights become a reality, electricity supply must be secured at the airports. Region Gotland has now begun work on identifying what measures need to be taken.
– From the region's side, we will pull out all the stops to ensure that Gotland residents and visitors can travel quickly, safely and sustainably by electric flight to and from the island as soon as the technology is available, says the chairwoman of the regional board, Eva Nypelius (C).
The aircraft that may become relevant have the ability to take on board 19 passengers and fly 400 kilometers before they need to be recharged.
