EMA: Two doses of vaccine required against the delta variant

The EU's medicines agency EMA states that two doses of Covid vaccine are necessary to protect against the more contagious delta variant.

The EU's disease control agency ECDC estimates that the delta variant will account for 90 percent of the virus variants circulating in the EU by the end of August. The variant, which was first discovered in India, has led to a sharp increase in the number of infections worldwide.

The World Health Organization states that the delta variant has been detected in 111 countries in the past two months, and that it will probably become the dominant variant in the world in the coming months.

ECDC refrains from making any recommendations about getting vaccinated with two doses from different pharmaceutical companies and says that it is too early to confirm whether and when an additional dose may be necessary.
