The heat wave in Europe continues. Yesterday, what appears to be a heat record for Europe was measured in Sicily at 48.8 degrees.
Now the heat is moving west across the Mediterranean from Greece, the Balkans and Italy towards Portugal and Spain, which could reach heat records.
”"It is quite common for heat waves to occur in Europe around the Mediterranean, but for these extreme temperatures to occur and for it to last as long as it has is quite unusual," says Linnea Rehn, meteorologist at SMHI.
