The question of the future of Bromma Airport has once again been brought up on politicians' tables. And this time, the decision that is made could affect Sweden's entire base of airports in the future.

Traditionally, it is the incumbent government that decides whether an airport should be included in Sweden's national basic offer or not. After a long and infected political conflict over whether Bromma Airport should be closed or not, this may now change. This after the Moderates made a request for a so-called committee initiative in the Riksdag's transport committee.

If the Moderates win a majority, which they believe they can, decisions like these will instead be on the Riksdag's table in the future. 

– A majority of the Riksdag has said on two occasions that we want Bromma to remain. But these announcements are ignored, says MP and Moderate Party traffic policy spokesperson Maria Stockhaus.

MP criticizes M

The Green Party, which has been the driving force behind the government's desire to close Bromma, says that the initiative is proof that the Moderates are a climate-damaging party.

– It is a party that will prioritize tax breaks before the climate, so when we go to the polls in a year, it is important that everyone knows that the Moderates are pursuing this type of policy, says MP and Green Party climate policy spokesperson Lorentz Tovatt. 

Isn't it reasonable for the government to listen to Parliament? 

– The government is always ultimately subordinate to the Riksdag, but the Riksdag is supposed to run its companies. This is an issue where those who run the airport themselves have said that it is not profitable and that we should close it down. In addition, we are living in a climate emergency.
