The Green Party wants to ban short domestic flights, writes Svenska Dagbladet. The party board has backed a motion that will be discussed at the party's congress next week.
The party has not specified which time limits or distances would be relevant to the proposal. However, the Green Party has found inspiration in France, which next year is introducing a ban on short domestic flights. The ban applies to routes where the journey takes less than two and a half hours by train.
”In Sweden, it must be investigated on a case-by-case basis. We have different geographical conditions here, some routes are harder to reach by train, even if it's possible. But I would say up to 3–4 hours, approximately,” says Lorentz Tovatt, the Green Party's spokesperson on climate policy, to Svenska Dagbladet.
Lorentz Tovatt would be happy to see the Stockholm–Gothenburg air route disappear.
