Over 6,000 flights have been canceled over the Christmas holiday season worldwide, with thousands more experiencing delays – many due to the omicron variant of the coronavirus.
On Saturday, more than 2,800 flights were canceled, of which nearly 1,000 were flights bound for or from the United States, according to the website Flightaware.
Pilots, cabin crew and other staff have either called in sick or are in quarantine, forcing Lufthansa, Delta, United Airlines and many other airlines to cancel flights during one of the busiest travel holidays of the year.
The entire Christmas holiday has been marked by chaos in the air. Earlier on Friday, delays reached around 11,000, and the number of canceled departures amounted to around 2,400.
