A six-week wait for vaccination certificates awaits those who lack e-ID, despite the fact that the issuer, the Swedish E-Health Authority, has hired 58 new people to meet the pressure. 
– Now we have come to the applications that came in the second week of December. We have processed 65,000 applications and 65,000 are still pending, says Erika Burlin Hellman, Head of Communications at the E-Health Agency.

When the government announced in mid-November that requirements for showing vaccination certificates would be introduced in certain businesses from December, there was high pressure at the E-health Authority in Kalmar, which issues the certificates. The authority has still not caught up with the analogue certificates, despite new hires.

– We really want it to go much faster than it does now, and we are working to shorten waiting times as much as we can, says Erika Burlin Hellman.

A total of ten million vaccine passports have been issued by the E-Health Agency to five million Swedes.

Has hired 60 new people

At the end of November, the authority announced that 40 new people would be hired in Kalmar to meet increased demand, and that number has grown since then.

– In total, there are around 60 new employees, most of whom are in service now and the rest will join in January.

Could more jobs be available?

– We'll see, I don't have any information about that right now.

The processing should be automated

But simply hiring more people has not helped. To shorten the time, the authority will now automate the processing of paper forms, which the authority says will shorten the processing time considerably and is expected to be up and running sometime in the next few months.
