Storm Gyda, which has moved into Norway, is causing major problems. About ten people have been evacuated and authorities are warning of flooding and landslides.
In Eresfjord in Molde municipality, a river is at risk of overflowing its banks and 44 residents have been evacuated.
”"We are continuously assessing whether further evacuations are needed and how long the evacuations should last," the police wrote in a statement.
The water level in the river has risen by over a meter since 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
”"The river poses a great danger. It finds new paths down towards the residential areas," says the chairman of Molde Municipality, Torgeir Dahl, to VG, stating that 90 people have been evacuated.
In Sjöholt in Ålesund Municipality, residents of 16 houses have been evacuated after a landslide at a construction site. No one is reported to have been injured.
The storm moved in. across Western Norway and central Norway on Wednesday evening. It has brought large amounts of rain, causing flooding and several roads have been closed.
The Norwegian Water and Energy Authority (NVE) is also warning of landslides.
”"In our time, we have never reported such a great danger of landslides," says Aart Verhage, regional manager at NVE, to NRK.
The storm is expected to subside on Thursday and move further into Sweden and the northern parts of the country.
