Scandic to open climate-neutral hotel in Sundsvall in 2024

Scandic Hotels has signed a long-term lease agreement with Skanska for a new hotel with 210 rooms in central Sundsvall. The new hotel, which has an attractive location in the city's harbor, will be constructed of wood and thus have a very high environmental standard. The hotel is expected to open in 2024. The hotel will be called Scandic Sundsvall Central.

The hotel, which will have an excellent location right next to Sundsvall's harbor and railway station, will have 210 rooms and a pleasant restaurant and bar area on the entrance floor. Upstairs will be the hotel's relaxation and wellness area, gym and meeting rooms, all with a fantastic view of the Bothnian Sea.

The property will be built with a wooden frame, wooden facade and wooden interior. It will be built in accordance with the highly ranked environmental certification, LEED Gold. With energy-efficient material choices and solar panels on the roof, this will be a hotel with a very high energy standard that will be completely climate neutral during its lifetime.

Sundsvall is an attractive hotel market with a strong local business community combined with growing tourism. Scandic already has two hotels in Sundsvall with a total of 312 rooms.

– Scandic's new addition in Sundsvall will be a modern and attractive meeting place with an optimal location in an interesting region where we see growing hotel demand. Together with Skanska, we have developed the hotel for two years and it naturally feels very positive to further strengthen our hotel offering in Sundsvall, says Peter Jangbratt, Head of Scandic Hotels Sweden.

"It is very pleasing that we are now welcoming Scandic as a tenant. A company that shares our values when it comes to sustainability and with which we have also worked closely in other projects," says Joakim Åkesson, Regional Manager Skanska Sweden.
