US charges Belarusians with hijacking

Remove

US prosecutors have indicted four Belarusians for hijacking a plane.

The four are accused of ”corrupting the international standard that countries around the world follow to keep air passengers safe” when the Belarusian government diverted a Ryanair plane to Minsk International Airport in May last year.

The plane flew from Athens to Vilnius. On board were regime critics Roman Protasevich and Sofia Sapega, who were arrested. The incident was condemned internationally.
