Hid in the wheel well – flew in from South Africa

A stowaway has been discovered in the wheel well of an airplane in Amsterdam – which had arrived from South Africa.

The man is alive, but has not yet been identified.

He is believed to have sneaked into the cargo plane's front wheel before it took off from an airport in Johannesburg. A flight between Johannesburg and Amsterdam takes an average of around eleven hours.

"It's quite remarkable that he's still alive," says police spokeswoman Joanne Helmonds.

The man was taken to hospital, but his condition is described as stable.

Last year, a dead Nigerian man was discovered in the wheel well of a plane landing in Amsterdam. (TT)
