BRUSSELS (News Agency Direkt) EU countries agreed on Tuesday to ease travel restrictions for tourists from around the world.

The rules are being changed to now also take into account whether the traveler is vaccinated against COVID-19, in addition to taking into account the spread of infection in the area the traveler comes from.

The EU ministers' decision was published by the Council of Ministers' press service.

The decision is a recommendation to EU countries, each of which has the exclusive right to decide on rules for entry and exit to and from their own country.

EU countries should allow ”non-essential” travel from countries outside the EEA for people vaccinated with vaccines approved by the EU or the World Health Organization (WHO), for people who have recently recovered from COVID-19, and for people traveling from areas with low transmission rates.

However, EU countries may impose additional requirements, such as PCR tests before travel.
