French-Dutch airline giant Air France-KLM lost its appeal on Wednesday against a cartel fine imposed by the European Commission five years ago after the airlines were found guilty of participating in an air cargo cartel two decades ago, Reuters reports.
This means that the fines for Air France are set at 182.9 million euros, equivalent to 1.9 billion kronor, and for KLM at 127.1 million euros, equivalent to 1.3 billion kronor. The total fine for the cartel, which consists of 12 airlines, amounted to 776 million euros.
Air France and KLM merged in 2004.
Several air cargo companies will have their fines reduced at the same time, including British Airways, while the SAS Group will see a slight reduction.
