Digital meetings took off – authorities canceled flights

The pandemic left a clear mark on Swedish government emissions last year as well. Air travel fell sharply while the number of digital meetings within the state skyrocketed – to 15.5 million.

Emissions from air travel almost halved and a 30 percent reduction in total business travel. This is a result of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's new report on the 2021 environmental management work of 187 government agencies.

The number of digital meetings went in the opposite direction. Authorities reported that 15.5 million such meetings were held last year, an increase of almost 50 percent compared to 2020.

More emissions from ships and construction still meant that total emissions increased compared to the year before.
