SAS cancels around 4,000 flights from May to August, reports Dagens Industri.

The reason is said to be staff shortages and delivery problems.

The airline had previously planned for 75,000 flights this summer. Now, around five percent of them are being canceled.

The announcement is met with criticism from the pilot union, which points out that 450 pilots were laid off in 2020.

– The reason they are not back is, in our opinion, that management has decided that instead of investing in the company and rehiring the pilots, they are choosing a path where they take a conflict with the staff in an attempt to get out of our agreements. Then they are choosing, with deliberate courage, not to secure enough resources for the summer, says Martin Lindgren, chairman of the SAS section of the pilots' union.

He also says that the union has warned that there will not be enough staff to fly as much as SAS wants this summer.
