The government rejects the Russian airline Aeroflot's application to fly between Moscow and Stockholm this summer.

”"We are now applying the sanctions and thereby putting pressure on Russia during the ongoing conflict," says Infrastructure Minister Tomas Eneroth (S).

Aeroflot "relatively recently" applied for a traffic permit to fly regularly on the Moscow-Arlanda and Arlanda-Moscow routes during the summer period.

Due to the sanctions, it is the government that reviews the traffic permit instead of the Swedish Transport Agency, as is normal.

”"I assume that they (the Russian airline) are prepared that they will not have their application approved. I may be surprised that they have submitted an application," says Tomas Eneroth.

He points out that the entire EU applies the same and that corresponding rejection processes are taking place in several European countries.

”"It is important that we, in accordance with the existing sanctions, are clear towards Russia and do not open up air traffic," says the minister.

The EU decision on sanctions against Russia means, among other things, that aircraft registered in Russia or owned or controlled by Russian companies or private individuals are not allowed to fly over any EU country.
