The queue chaos at Arlanda is likely to get even worse when the charter companies' peak season begins in a few weeks.
”"Then there will be even higher volumes of people leaving, so we really have to hope that things will be better by then," says Anna Hagberg at Ving.
Recently, queues have been long at several major airports in Europe. The explanation is a staff shortage as more people want to travel after the pandemic.
”"All travel companies and airlines are in the same position, and I think those responsible have realized that too, that it is not a sustainable situation," says Anna Hagberg, press officer at the travel company Ving.
Many travelers choose to arrive at the airport too early, which can contribute to increased congestion, according to state-owned Swedavia, which operates Arlanda. Ving recommends travelers be at the airport about three hours before departure.
”We have been informing our travelers via text message for a long time,” says Hagberg.
Ving is in contact with various stakeholders regarding the queueing problem.
”"We are trying to influence as much as possible, but it is a problem that lies with Swedavia and those responsible."”
Anna Hagberg does not want to tell us how those conversations go.
”"Of course, we have a dialogue via industry associations and try to stay on top of things as much as possible, of course, but I don't have any detailed information."”
Those who have booked trips with Ving and the travel company TUI from Arlanda will be able to catch their planes on time, despite the crowds.
”We have no reports of guests not arriving on their flights,” says Hagberg.
Around 5,000 travelers travel with TUI from Arlanda every week.
”"It may be that people who are going on a charter trip with their family are not at risk. They are there in very good time," says TUI's communications manager Adam Györki.
